2006 in movies

Cinema.nl has a list of all films released in the Netherlands in 2006 for the first time. Of those, I've seen a paltry fifteen., ranked below from my favorite of the bunch until Hoodwinked. Actually, the films easily devide up into the 5 (maybe six, Inside Man is on the fence) I loved, the 3 (or 4) that I enjoyed, and 6 I did't care for all that much.

Brick
Brokeback Mountain
Volver
The Science of Sleep
Capote
Inside Man
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada
Match Point
Casino Royale
Munich
Les Amants Réguliers
Pirates Of the Carribean: Dead Man's chest
Walk the Line
Syriana
Hoodwinked

and, as long as I'm procrastinating, I went back and looked at the list for 2005, as I've (now) seen a few more of those.

* I have no idea why this film was such a flop, why it flew under the radar too much. I found it for only 4.90 in an ex-rental box this weekend (and of course bought it). My favorite film of 2005, yet nobody seems to care, or even know about it. Oh well. Somehow I think this will be the film remembered 10 years from now.

**My brother and sister were watching the Aviator on DVD the other day, I caught some fragments, and was left wondering why this film didn't appeal to me in cinemas. It seemed so vibrant, so alive, the music was jaunty, and the whole hyperreal nature of it all of a sudden seemed awesome. But then I stayed for a bit longer, and was reminded: the film is much too fragmentary, too long, and too cold to stick with you for very long.
